During this pandemic, we know that it is increasingly important to look after our own mental health and that of others.

There are a number of free training courses available:

The Clear Project has been also working with the PHA to find innovative ways to work with harder to reach groups and offer them Mental Health First Aid training.

Accessing sports clubs

In December, the Clear Project, in conjunction with the Public Health Agency, grant funded 27 constituted, voluntary sector sports clubs in the Western Trust area for sports equipment and mental health training for club coaches and members. This was through its Sports Groups Grant.

The funding allows at least one significant club member to complete Mental Health First Aid training and helps the club to get £300 worth of relevant sports equipment.

The Mental Health First Aid training is currently being organised and will be completed over the coming months. Once complete, clubs will be able to use the funding to purchase their requested sports equipment.

This funding programme is designed to help the club develop activities that meet the needs of the local community and support the delivery of the PHA's ‘Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing’. Programme. These are five simple steps to help maintain and improve your wellbeing through the themes of ‘Connect’, ‘Be active’, ‘Take Notice’, ‘Keep Learning’ and ‘Give’.

Accessing the deaf community

The Clear Project is also very excited to be working with Hands that Talk and RESILIO to develop Mental Health First Aid training for members of the deaf community. RESILIO is working closely with the PHA to adapt the material for the forthcoming courses.

The aim is to host two of these ground-breaking sessions in March 2021. The first one will just be for those from the deaf community and then the other session will be those from both the hearing and deaf community.
