As the coronavirus vaccination programme rolls out across Northern Ireland, it is really important to support people with learning difficulties and prepare them for what will happen at their appointment.

The PHA has produced a leaflet which explains about COVID-19, the vaccine, what happens at a vaccination appointment and what they should expect.

At our conference in December - Health Inequalities: Making reasonable adjustments for people with learning disabilities - we learned a lot about supporting those with a learning disability in a health care setting.

We were fortunate to have experts from Ulster University, Mencap and the Western Trust at the event to:

• Consider some of the latest research
• Show how reasonable adjustments such as the Treat Me Well and Hospital Passport schemes could make a positive difference
• To hear examples of the support put in place at Altnagelvin Hospital to support people with a learning disability through their hospital visits and ensure they receive the best possible outcome
